I call it anal, all this focusing. What’s wrong with shifting foci? That’s the way it really happens in our minute-to-minute lives. Focus, as in a predelineated territory, can be so much humbug. Unless, of course, one is searching for a niche, a crack in the cosmic egg, a public relations path, or a slot for tab A.

Why do you blog? What do you hope to discover about yourself? What do you need to tell me? Why?

I just watched this film a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it as much as you did. Not only is it a striking composition of the time (1980′s) but it also does a great job of showing the easy path from dissatisfaction and alienation in one’s own life, to getting swept up in group dynamics that take that frustration out on others.

Admittedly not the best researched post. Good to know about the thimerosal; I had thought it was still used in a few. Because it is ruled out, however, does not mean that we have completely dealt with the presence of mercury and other harmful additives. I am aware that my daughter is at higher risk of contracting certain illnesses. The effects of most of these illnesses generally last as long as the illness itself. Long lasting, debilitating conditions as the result of mumps, rubella, etc. are exceedingly rare. There is evidence, though, that vaccines themselves can cause long term, irreparable harm – this may also be an unlikely outcome, but it’s there.

It seems to me that the debate on both sides is somewhat fear driven. There are good, rational points on both ends and it was a difficult decision for us. That being said, I have great distrust for the drug companies and the FDA (which often operates as if it supports the industry’s profit motive ahead of the needs of the public).

I feel that either way we are playing a little game of Russian roulette with our children and only time will tell who is really getting the bullet.

Point of information – thimerosal has not been used in childhood vaccines in the U.S. since 2001. While I respect your decision not to vaccinate, my personal belief is that you’re putting your child at greater risk (not to mention creating problems for yourself with schools, sports, etc.) by not vaccinating. Just my $0.02.

I like the concatenation of beans and turds, the stimulus and the response. Many of us no longer infants suffer from this same S-R, and you do a good job of elucidating the infantile condition of confusion. (Well, confusion is a constant in most lives … are beans the reason?)

The show, again, does not pander to popular taste necessarily. The choreographers and dancers can sometimes take astonishing risks in the material, considering its presence on the Fox network.

It is true that the show is not without its sensationalist elements. There are the vignettes about each dancer that can be pretty sentimental. There is the mechanism of voting dancers off each week and the attending drama of the announcement every Thursday evening. It is really the dancing that carries the show, however.

Let’s hear it for… it’s GABE!

Olive and I are obsessed with the show, too. I don’t know if Evan’s really on the chopping block, though. He’s got his fans, including me. I worry more about more talented dancers like Ade and Melissa getting the boot (both in the bottom last week after great performances) before their time.

I’ve been watching since season 2 and this is far and away the best lineup.
